Why? Colitis and Crohn’s (conditions known as inflammatory bowel disease or IBD) affect a quarter of a million people across the UK – symptoms can include diarrhoea, severe pain and fatigue, eye, joint and skin problems, and impaired growth in children.

These lifelong diseases have no known cure, and frequently first affect teenagers and young adults.

Despite the greater prevalence of IBD (every 1 in 250 people in the UK) public recognition of Colitis & Crohn’s Disease is well below that of Parkinson’s Disease or Multiple Sclerosis.

When? From 11th March onwards you can register your vote online at www.stepupandbecounted.org.uk or via the NACC website at www.nacc.org.uk – the National Association for Colitis and Crohn’s Disease [NACC] is a registered charity supporting IBD sufferers, constantly campaigning for improved healthcare and funding vital research.

At present only 39% of UK hospitals hold a database of their IBD patients.

Now NACC is calling for the NHS to set up a national Register of IBD Patients.
This will help by:
	Ensuring quality care for all patients.
	Gathering data for research into a cure.
	Identifying IBD patients who are not in a follow-up system and may be at risk of complications
